Clinicopathologic Analysis on 25 Cases of Giant Cell Tumor of Bone

Abstract
Giant cell thmor is uncommon primary bone tumor and is predominantly found in metaphyseoepipjuseal region especially around the knee joint. It may be classified into histologically benign tumor, but it has unpredictable cllinical behavior, local
recurrence and even metastasis. Thus, the lesion produce difficult therapeutic problem for the orthopedic surgeon.
In this report, we are presention our experience with 25 surgically treated and pathologically proven cases of giant cell tumor of the bone from 1980 to 1990 at Paik hospital, Pusan in Korea. We carried out this sutdy as comparison with
histologic
and
clinical results, results according to the treatment modality and result according to the cortical breakage.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1. Pathologic grade did not correlate with the prognosis.
2. 3 most comon sites were distal femur, proximal tibia and proximal fibula.
3. Recurrence rate was 48% excluding amputation and not concerned with cortical breakage.
4. For the prevention of recurrence, more aggressive local treatment is recommended.
